The nostalgic sound of The Four Freshmen will be back at center stage this month when the newest incarnation of the popular 1950s vocal group appears at the TCU Jazz Festival. The show, reprising all their greatest hits, is at 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 28 at Ed Landreth Auditorium.
The popular quartet lends their jazz harmonies to original favorites like It's a Blue World, Mood Indigo, Day By Day, Graduation Day and others, but their music isn't all in the past. The Four Freshmen were voted "Vocal Group of the Year" in 2000 by Down Beatmagazine readers. The TCU Jazz Ensemble, directed by Curt Wilson, is also on the Friday program. Tickets are $20 at the door.
This is the 31st year for the annual Jazz Festival which has a rich history of bringing in the greats in the field to perform alongside the University's own talented jazz ensembles. Jazz trombonist Joe Jackson will also be part of the weekend event ... helping train aspiring young musicians during the Saturday session and blowing audiences out of their seats at a concert that night. He will perform with the TCU Jazz Ensembles, led by Curt Wilson, Joey Carter and James McNair.
Formerly lead trombone with the U.S. Air Force “Airmen of Note,” Jackson has been director of the group since 2004. He also performs with top East Coast big bands, including the Woody Herman Orchestra and the David Liebman Big Band.
