TCU begins Black History Month with civil rights pioneer and author Reby Cary

Fort Worth, TX
2/2/2009

TCU begins Black History Month with the account of a civil rights pioneer and author, Reby Cary, on Monday, Feb. 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the BLUU Ballroom. The event is sponsored by the Center for Civic Literacy, the Center for Urban Education, the Tandy Center for Executive Leadership and AddRan College of Liberal Arts.

Reby Cary, a real-estate broker, worked as a counselor, teacher, and administrator at a number of Texas colleges for almost 30 years, urging students to pursue justice and equality for all men and women. Toward the end of his teaching career, Cary became involved in local politics. He was the first African-American elected at-large to the Fort Worth Independent School District Board, and from 1979 to 1985 he served as a Texas State Representative for District 95. Cary has been an active member of numerous professional and community organizations over the years, including the American Legion, the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, and the Texas Council of Black Republicans. Cary is the author of several books. Limited seating available. For more information and to RSVP, email c.ramos@tcu.edu or call 817-257-5550.
