2/20/2009

The TCU history department,  the Center for Texas Studies and the Institute for Women and Gender present the Texas Women/American Women Symposium to be held at TCU Feb. 27-28 in the Brown-Lupton University Union Ballroom.

Elizabeth Hayes Turner, a professor at the University of North Texas, will present "The Bride of Texas: Gender and the Selling of a Southern State" at 6:30 p.m. at a dinner event.  On Saturday, three leading scholars of American women's history will give presentations: Juliana Barr of the Unversity of South Florida, Laura Edwards of Duke University and Marjorie Julian Spruill of the University of South Carolina. Each will address the topic of how Texas women's history meshes with the history of women in the Spanish Borderlands and the American South. The all-day session begins at 9 a.m.

The event is free, but requires reservations. To RSVP, call 817-257-7130. For more information on the event, visit www.texasstudies.org.
