TCU Opera presents fully-staged production of "Ormindo" March 6-8

Enjoy a fresh look at a classic and the thrilling sound of a new generation of singers when the TCU Opera Studio presents Ormindo by Francesco Cavalli (libretto by Giovanni Faustini) March 6-8 in Ed Landreth Auditorium. Performances are at
7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Directed by Richard Estes of the TCU School of Music faculty, Ormindo is a full production, complete with sets by Wade Giampa, costumes by Opera San Jose and a baroque orchestra orchestra conducted by J. David Brock.Ten of the finest young voices in North Texas* will take on the 17th century baroque comic opera in the original Italian, with projected English supertitles.
Ormindo was first performed in Venice in 1644 in the San Cassiano Opera House, the first public opera house in the world. For the next 50 years, composer Cavalli was the most famous musician in Italy and was in demand throughout Europe.
Tickets will be sold at the door. They are free with TCU ID and priced at $10 for the general audience, $5 for students and seniors.
*Of the cast of 10, eight of the music students are from Texas, one is from Russia, one is from China.
