The TCU Alumni Association will present its 2009 alumni awards at a reception and dinner May 2 in the ballroom of Brown-Lupton University Union. The six honorees are Dr. W. Edward Robinson, Jr. '84, Rick L. and Connie Wilkinson Wittenbraker '70 '70, Angela G. Stanford '00, Jennifer Duncan Edgeworth '96 and Candace M. Ruocco '09.
Dr. Robinson, recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award, is at the forefront of AIDS research. Post-graduate work at Vanderbilt University led to his interest in virology and both Ph.D. and M.D. degrees. He is a full professor in the University of California/Irvine School of Medicine.
Receiving the Valuable Alumni Award are Rick and Connie Wittenbraker, key participants on the Houston Alumni Board since 1994. Both have been involved in almost every aspect of post-TCU service, including Parents Council, Chancellor's Council, Clark Society and Frog Club. Mr. Wittenbraker is a member of the TCU Board of Trustees.
Frog O'Fame Award goes to Angela Stanford, now a top contender on the LPGA tour. In mid-April, the Rolex Rankings placed her seventh in the world. Last year she crossed the $3 million mark in career earnings. Fort Worth is Angela's hometown.
Jennifer Duncan Edgeworth will be honored with the Outstanding Young Professional Award. She has been promoted to partner at her Dallas law firm, Hermes Sargent Bates, LLP, and was voted president-elect of the 2,500 member Dallas Association of Young Lawyers.
Candace M. Ruocco has been selected for the Distinguished Student Award. She is the first TCU student ever to receive quadruple degrees: a B.S. in both political science and fashion merchandising and a B.A. in both English and modern languages. She will attend Saint Louis University School of Law in the fall as a Dean's Select Scholar.
