TCU's Institute of Child Development completes eighth Camp Hope

Fort Worth, TX
7/21/2009

TCU’s Institute of Child Development held its eighth Camp Hope session July 6 – 17, 2009 at the Starpoint School, located on TCU’s campus.  Camp Hope, the centerpiece of the Institute of Child Development, is a therapeutic summer camp for adopted children with special socio-emotional needs.

This year, 12 children, in the five to eight age range, attended the two week camp. During camp, children are immersed in individual, group and recreational activities that meet both physical and emotional needs. Each “camper” is also assigned a “buddy” for the duration of the session. Buddies are TCU graduate and undergraduate students preparing for careers in education, clinical practice, nursing, medicine, speech and language pathology, social work, criminal justice and other professions. Prior to interning at Camp Hope, students must also fulfill specific course requirements. During camp, students receive ongoing supervision, training and feedback from a diverse team of professionals, including social workers and therapists.
