Historic Texas Map Exhibit returns to Fort Worth

Fort Worth, TX
11/17/2009

“Going to Texas: Five Centuries of Texas Maps,” winds up a two-year tour of the state with an exhibition at the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame from Nov. 13 – Jan. 3.
The exhibit of 64 historic Texas maps originated in 2006 when TCU's Center for Texas Studies partnered with the Museum of the Big Bend at Sul Ross State University in Alpine to show items from the Yana & Marty Davis Map Collection. The maps date from 1548 to 2006.

The exhibit, has traveled to the Old Red Museum in Dallas, Panhandle Plains Historical Museum in Canyon, Museum of the Southwest in Midland, Mayborn Museum Complex in Waco, Museum of South Texas History in Edinburg, Museum of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Centennial Museum in El Paso, and the Old Jail Art Center in Albany.

“There’s so much here that you can learn about Texas history,” said J. Edward Townes, former assistant director of the Center for Texas Studies at TCU. “You watch Texas grow and redefine itself through these maps.”
