TCU College of Communication student Amy Parker Graziano-Davis was chosen by the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) as this year’s recipient to participate in the highly selective and competitive Distinguished Scholars Program, an intensive learning and internship experience designed exclusively for NSCS members. This career development opportunity will bring her to New York City, Boston, Chicago, or Washington, D.C. to live, work, and study for eight weeks from June 3 – July 29, 2006.

Each Distinguished Scholars Program participant is carefully placed in a meaningful internship that matches his or her interests and career goals. Previous participants have worked at such places as Knight-Ridder, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the Smithsonian Institution.

In addition to a full-time internship, the Distinguished Scholars in Boston, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. will take an evening class at Boston University, Loyola University Chicago, or Georgetown University, respectively. Each three-credit course will examine the contemporary city and the social problems challenging urban America. Students in New York will explore the city as a living classroom, experiencing the city through additional cultural and service-based activities.

With a rich blend of hands-on career, classroom, and cultural experiences, the Distinguished Scholars will leave the program with a greater understanding of their future goals and the inspiration needed to attain them.

NSCS is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is the nation’s only interdisciplinary honors organization for first- and second-year college students. Membership is by invitation only, based on grade point average and class standing. NSCS has more than 450,000 lifetime members and 218 chapters in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
