TCU celebrates Veterans Day each year by hosting a week of events to honor the sacrifice each veteran makes for our country. This year, TCU’s Veterans Week celebration will kick off Sunday Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. with a moment of silence, flag planting and yellow ribbon dedication in the BLUU Commons.
Several events continue through the week, including the Wall of Honor all day Sunday – Friday on the first floor of the TCU Library and the first floor of the BLUU near Union Grounds. Participants may place a photo of themselves or other veterans on the Wall of Honor to reflect on their service and sacrifice. The Veterans Lounge will be open Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. in Scharbauer 4015. Visitors can enjoy a coffee break and refreshments while viewing military items and memorabilia. Additionally, TCU Human Resources encourages faculty, staff and students to thank a veteran for their service all week campus-wide.
Individual events will kick off Monday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. with the Soul Repair Center’s official launch at the Brite Divinity School.
The Veterans Celebration Walk is on Tuesday Nov. 13 from 5 – 6 p.m., starting and ending at Veterans Memorial Plaza. Attendees may reflect on the service of our veterans during the walk and plant a flag on Sadler Lawn.
Operation Bracelet, presented by TCU Women’s and Men’s Programs, is available Tuesday – Thursday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on the first floor of the BLUU. Participants can make a bracelet and wear it in support of veterans. Students, faculty and staff can also write a personal message to veterans at Cards to the Troops, which will be held Tuesday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. on the second floor of the blue near Market Square and at the Veterans Lounge in Scharbauer, room 4015.
Wednesday, Nov. 14 is Military Pride Day. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to wear red, white and blue or a military inspired t-shirt to show pride for our veterans. TCU Women Veterans Society will present The Invisible War, a 2012 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award winner, on Wednesday at 2p.m. in the Moudy North auditorium.
TCU’s Veterans Week celebration will end on Friday, Nov. 16 with a ceremony and a luncheon. At 10 a.m. a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at Veterans Plaza in front of Reed Hall. The ceremony will honor our fallen veterans and will be followed by a Veterans Celebration Luncheon on Friday from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the BLUU ballroom. Lt. Col. Todd Waldvogel, TCU Associate Vice-Chancellor for Facilities, will be the guest speaker. An RSVP is required for the event.
