TCU moved up 10 spots in the 2014 U.S. News & World Report rankings of national universities from 92 to 82. Earlier this year The Chronicle of Higher Education recognized the University as one of the Great Colleges to Work For, and TCU was included on the Honor Roll for recognition in several categories. Additionally, the University had a record-breaking number of applications last year, all of which represent a stellar year for TCU.
TCU has been on an exciting journey to become a world-class, values-centered university through its strategic plan, Vision in Action: The Academy of Tomorrow. The increased ranking is one indicator of progress toward that goal. Through The Academy of Tomorrow, TCU is focused on the following:
· Continuing to recruit students with strong academic profiles
· Growing the overall student body to a total of 10,000 students
· Creating a mix of students that is reflective of society at large
· Offering excellent residential and learning facilities
Overall student applications are up and the incoming class represents students from across the world. For the past two academic years, some 40,000 applicants have vied for fewer than 4,000 places in the incoming classes. The SAT and ACT scores, as well as class rank, of these classes are among TCU’s highest ever. Also, 45 percent of this year’s incoming class is from Texas, while 55 percent is from across the United States and abroad.
Additionally, the University recently raised $108.7 million for its Campaign Scholarship Initiative, which provided unprecedented financial support for our students.
Small classes and a low student-faculty ratio are vital to creating a person-centered environment. Forty-six new faculty members have been hired for this academic year, and 17 new faculty positions added. Consequently, TCU will again maintain the student-faculty ratio at better than 14-1, an imperative of The Academy of Tomorrow vision.
In short, TCU is continuing to strive to provide students with an unparalleled university experience.
