Road Closures

May 6, 2008

As construction continues on the new Brown-Lupton University Union, the fencing surrounding the building will be extended further south in front of Moncrief Hall to accomodate landscapers. Pedestrians will need to find an alternate route when headed west toward Stadium Drive, such as walking behind Moncrief Hall, near the University Recreation Center.

Next week, construction crews will begin working on the southeast entrance of the Brown-Lupton Student Center and the entrance to University Career Services. The handicap ramp in this area will be disrupted. Signs will indicate how individuals needing a ramp can access the Student Center during this time.

The crosswalk connecting the Mary Couts Burnett Library Mall and the Veterans Plaza in front of Reed Hall will be reconfigured to improve wheel chair access.  You will still be able to cross University Drive at these locations as the crews will only be working on one half at a time; however, the areas will be more congested than usual. The work is scheduled to be complete by the end of the month. The project will improve wheel chair access and appearance of these two heavily used crosswalks.

As construction on the bookstore progresses, areas on Berry and Cockrell Streets immediately next to the construction site may be blocked between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Construction on Cockrell Street may make it difficult to get to the bookstore and the reserved parking lot at Cockrell and W. Bowie Streets until early October. Only one lane on Cockrell Street will be open during construction and parking on the street will not be permitted.

Cockrell Avenue is under construction to install a utility line. Construction will occur at night, but access to the street will be limited during the day. The project should be complete by August 20, 2007.
