Dr. Don Mills, vice chancellor for
student affairs, today sent the following message to campus community
members in light of the tragic occurence at Virginia Tech
Dear Campus Community,
It
is with great sadness that we learned today about the tragic shootings
on Virginia Tech’s campus. While our hearts go out to that campus
community, we are also mindful of perhaps some feelings of concern on
our own campus. To that end, I want to reassure the entire community
that TCU employs security measures that we consider to be among the
best. Those measures include:
-- A campus police force that patrols the campus 24-hours a day, seven days a week -- Regular training for TCU Police officers through the Fort Worth Police Department -- A national, best-practice security strategy to address the type of incidence that occurred on Virginia Tech’s campus
TCU
has an emergency response team, which it deploys during emergencies. In
addition to this team, TCU uses a variety of communication tools to
provide the campus with emergency information including bullhorns,
campuswide e-mails, the TCU home page and the recorded information
line. TCU also can send information to students living on campus via
residence hall telephones.
TCU also has many resources available
for faculty, staff and students who might need assistance during this
time. If you have such a need, please contact the Counseling Center at
817-257-7863/7864 or University Ministries at 817-257-7830.
Sincerely,
Dr. Don Mills Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
