Q: What have you learned studying piano at TCU? A: Dr. Ann Gipson, director of piano pedagogy, has created a learning environment that encourages dialogue between teacher and student. I always feel comfortable asking questions or asking for advice about my teaching. This openness in the classroom environment has really allowed me to hear a variety of views and opinions from my fellow students and to expand the range of my own ideas about teaching. I feel that the music school has really prepared to become a successful music teacher.
Q: Why are Steinways special to practice and play on? A: Improving my skills at the piano and learning how to perform well is a huge part of being a good piano teacher, so I spend many hours each day at a piano. It is a privilege to be able practice on Steinway pianos, which are preferred by performers all over the world. I also appreciate being able to use Steinway pianos when teaching. It is really important for young pianists to hear the sound of a quality instrument when they play.
